Work with us

Looking after other people’s animals is a better job than most people expect and a harder one than most people think. Here is what it actually involves.

What we look for

Experience helps. None of these four can be taught quickly, so they matter more.

You turn up

Reliability beats everything else in this job. A client who is at work all day is trusting that you went, at the time you said, whether or not it was raining.

You say the awkward thing

A dog was sick, a lead snapped, you were twenty minutes late. We would far rather hear it from you straight away than from the client a day later.

You are careful with other people’s things

Keys, alarm codes, homes, and animals someone loves. Careful is not the same as nervous — it means you check, you lock up, and you notice.

You actually like animals

Including the difficult ones. The nervous rescue who takes three visits to come out from under the bed is the job, not an obstacle to it.

Open roles

Nothing advertised right now

We are small — small enough that hiring happens rarely and by word of mouth when it does. That is not a no, it just means there is no form to fill in today.

Send us a note about yourself — what you have looked after, what you are good with, and when you are free. We keep them, and we come back to them first when something opens up.

Before you write

Two things worth knowing. This work needs a DBS check and its own insurance, and we will ask about both. And it is genuinely outdoors, in genuinely bad weather, on days when nobody feels like it — if that part sounds fine to you, you will probably enjoy the rest.
